Subscribers to Coin World may have noticed that for the past few months my Collectors' Clearinghouse column has been filled with old material. I stopped sending new material because Coin World had fallen 4 1/2 months behind in their payments to me. If they ever come up with my back pay, and promise to pay me promptly in the future, I will resume writing my column. If they don't, I can still take pride in a successful tenure of 16+ years. In the meantime, I'm open to any and all writing and consulting jobs that could make use of my skill set. Error coin writer and researcher.

Hi Mike! That's really sad about Coin World, and seems they are struggling. A magazine is only as good as its content, and their content has now dropped a significant notch without your column. Given the number of folks with questions about error coins, I suspect opportunities will arise for you and your skills. Your contributions here alone have been incredibly useful, and we thank you!

Have you considered blogging? You already have a recognizable name and a following. I bet you wouldn't even have to use embedded advertising, you could probably sell sponsorship directly to the error coin specialists and auction houses.

I wouldn't even begin to know how to blog (let alone generate an income stream from it).

Quote: I wouldn't even begin to know how to blog (let alone generate an income stream from it). A post on this forum is 97% identical to a basic blog post. I wrote a blog about a niche video game for years on BlogSpot.com (owned by Google). The authoring process, in short: Write the article text in exactly the same rough form as Coin World or Error-Ref.com. You can copy+paste that text into pretty much any blogging platform, the editor is essentially a stripped down version of Microsoft Word running in your browser. Format with the basics like font, heading text, body text, bold, italics. Upload supporting images. Links can be learned from a 60 second tutorial. If you want to monetize with banner ads, that's just a checkbox in Settings. Since you are a recognized expert, I would recommend selling sponsorship directly, the way you guys already do on Error-Ref.com. You don't have to go all-in. Most blog accounts are free. You could just write an article (or re-use an old article), try it out, and if you hate it, just delete the blog.

Very sorry to learn of this Mike. Really sad about Coin World but even sadder that the owners can't make right of the payments to folks such as yourself. Sending along my best of wishes for a good fit for you somewhere.

Thanks for your guidance, Brandmeister. One of the reasons I started this thread is to reassure people that my health is fine and that no catastrophe has befallen me. A lack of new columns could have been interpreted as a sign that I was undergoing cancer treatment or experiencing a similar ordeal.

Your contributions here alone have been incredibly useful, and we thank you! Idea: Start a Youtube channel where you talk through coins that folks send you photos of (hi-res only) to examine (for a small fee). If the coin is interesting enough, you could have the owner send it in for a special "Under the Mike roscope" feature video.

Very disappointing to hear about this development Mike but I'm glad your health is not the issue.
Something will come your way to keep you occupied in your "free" time. (Unfortunately, it sounds like they took that term literally.)
