1917-D Type 1 Standing Liberty Quarter Grading

Not an expert and the Standing Liberty quarters seem tricky, looked at a lot of examples and having trouble coming to a conclusion. MisterT Pillar of the Community United States 2003 Posts	Posted 02/20/2025 05:43 am One of the most challenging series to grade due to the differences in criteria between the type 1, type 2 to 1924 and the different criteria for 1925-1930. To make matters even more confusing, just look at PCGS photograde. Look at the difference between the obverse grades of VF-20 versus VF-25 for the type 1 coins. That said, I think you have a nice example of a VF-30 coin in my opinion. Report this Post to the Staff
wood New Member United States 2 Posts	Posted 02/20/2025 11:37 am Thanks for all the input! I agree that realistically it would probably grade VF30-XF40, I think it's a 35 or 40 but I'm biased . However, it's pretty wild the variation you see in wear patterns in graded examples, it's kind of all over the place. Might be that the pictures don't capture the subtleties that well, or maybe the patina on my coin makes some features stand out differently. But I bought it because I like the patina and I think it's a cool looking, nicely circulated example, and one of my favorite designs. Report this Post to the Staff
