1956 D Wheat Penny Please Help With Rim Error And Other Issues I Cannot Identify!

Coins4ourkids New Member United States 47 Posts	Posted 02/21/2025 6:59 pm Hi all, I found this penny in my collection and am having trouble identifying the issues. First, can someone please confirm what the rim issue is? Also, do you see doubling in the date (I am new to this and trying to distinguish between the different "Doubles", but to me with the date showing signs of doubling on each side of the numbers and liberty looking very fat would this be a doubled die? and for the back I have no idea what is going on!! My first guess would be PMD, but something looks odd about it, almost like I'm seeing letters or other designs behind the main strike. In the center of the strike it is very week and can barely read america. it looks like there are scratches all over it but seems weird the front would be in such better condition. Also, whats up with the two dots below wheat stocks? And does that look like an 8 inside the U? When you stare at something long enough you start seeing things lol and I can't figure out whats up with this coin! Thanks as always excited to hear your professional thoughts. It has a strong inward groove with the brightest metal looking like it overlaps then stops where it recesses, almost like a clad but this should not be a clad coin. Is this typical with this type of rim error, or something else going on here? Report this Post to the Staff
