How would you grade the following Barber half dollar? Most, but not all, certified G-6's I see on ebay have a complete reverse rim. So does the PCGS Photograde example. The PCGS G-4 Reverse Photograde image, however, has less detail when compared to the reverse of this coin. So what is it, a 4 or a 6? Is the need for a complete rim on both sides a must have?

Grading of any coin is subjective. Some see it one way while others see something different. In my opinion the obverse is a solid G-6 and the reverse while technically a G-4 due to the small area of an incomplete rim is closer to G-6 in overall detail. So I suppose you could technically call it a split grade G-6/G-4 .I personally would be inclined to net it as a G-6. Considering that it is a key date I don't know how the TPG's would treat it. Its a toss up.

I just have a personal preference to full rims as I would assume most others do as well. It's just the first think I check and if it doesn't then I just move on unless something else really catches my eye.
