How do I determine between T1 and T2?

Some people get confused and look for the clear S mint mark of 1979 and think this is the type two.

The 1981 type two is FLAT on top, almost like a plateau. While the 1981 type one is the same as the 1980 and 1979 Type 2 or clear S.

LATE EDIT:
This is a good link! EVEN THOUGH it is about SBA dollars, the mint mark is pretty much the same for all Type two 1981 mint marks on all 1981 proof coins which can be found either way. Type one or type two.

Yes, I saw that, but the mint marks are the same for all the 1981 coins. Either they are type 1 or type 2 mint marks. So the link shows the difference in the type mintmark and the coin isn't an issue.
