Hello! I am new to this forum. Recently, I found this 2004 D Lincoln Cent in a roll I obtained from my local bank. The "4" on it is very different from the "4" on every other 2004 Lincoln Cent I can find, and I have searched through a lot of photos. For that matter, it is very different from the "4" on every Lincoln Cent and Indian cent I have ever seen, and it has knocked me for a loop. I have googled and googled, and I cannot find any mention of this by anyone anywhere.

What I am seeing here is definitely not a something that happened after minting. I have seen "Slanted 1" Lincoln Cents for which the "slanting" resulted from mechanical handling after the coin left the mint. My coin was definitely minted with this style of "4".

Has anyone else seen this? Have I really got something? I am looking forward to hearing from everyone.

How are you so sure that it didn't happen after minting? What leads you to this conclusion?

Ok, I am not absolutely sure it did not happen after minting. The reason I made that statement is that the slanted line does not show any evidence of metal displacement. Also, the triangle is a perfectly formed triangle.

If anyone has seen a Lincoln Cent with a "4" in the date that looks like mine, please post photos! Like any other numismatist, I am always learning.

The 4 took a well placed hit. It's just damage and not an error. PMD.

Thank you to everyone for taking the time to respond. This one had really been bugging me. I have never seen a circulation hit like that before, but it is a plausible explanation.

Thanks again!
