I sent this 1945 P Jefferson in for grading. It's definitely a DDR. I also was sure it has full steps. Anyone else agree they missed the error and designation? Thanks in advance.  https://www.pcgs.com/cert/50611402Edited by RonnieW

Questions: Did you pay them for variety attribution? Is this DDR a Cherrypicker Guide doubled die? The steps could go either way. The hubs were still sharp in 1945 with reverse of 1940, so PCGS tends to be picky about what they call full steps for that year. |

Did you pay for variety attribution? If you did, then they missed it.

After a quick look, this is almost certainly FS-803 (DDR-003). Even the die scratches line up. Is that the variety attribution you requested on the paperwork? If so, I would say that they dropped the ball here. http://www.varietyvista.com/04a%20J...5PDDR003.htm |

Nice looking coin & I see splits on bottom of "Five Cents & USOA", definitely a DDR.  Edited by coin rejector

Hondo, in fairness, you cannot tell me that the steps on this MS66FS FS-803 are cleaner than the steps on the MS63 coin above. They are in the gray area, it was a subjective call. I almost wonder if the MS63 grade didn't factor into the no-FS decision. https://www.pcgs.com/cert/24823751 |

Full steps is a total crap shoot. I think that it's been hyped by the TPGs as a money making scheme.

Public doesn't. However I've got the feeling poster may not have paid for all the extra bells and whistles. |
