That is a very common place for clashes to show up and more than likely was heavily abraded/polished, creating the deep areas in the die. You can also see lots of polishing throughout the fields.

Looks like 1957 & 58 were known for many die clashes. But I am also seeing a lot of Machine Doubling on the dates on the 1958's. Do you have any other links to these date tht could help me idntify more of these common issues?
