One of my favorite bank tellers called the other day and said an old customer had just dropped off a couple hundred dollars worth of old pennies, nickels, silver dollars and old dollar bills. Asked if I wanted them. Sure I said and quickly drove down and bought everything. The teller said it came from someone who had been hoarding since the 60s. The wrappers were falling off the coins...and it was apparent that some had been in the wrappers for more than 25 years.

When I get to my car I find that every roll has the words "to spend" written on them and after opening a few I can see that there are no wheat cents and the latest date is 1982. Some cents are in MS including the early ones but many are just as they came out of the change jar in the 60s and 70s. I'm not a copper hoarder so that part doesn't excite me. The silver dollars are all Ikes and the nickels have a few 50s but mostly 60s. There are about a dozen blue star silver certificates.

Any thoughts on what to do with all cents? I have been pulling the red BU ones and tossing the rest in the recycle bag.

Well, reasonably, if you're not a copper hoarder spend em, donate em to charity or send em to me.

Ahh not many nickels, only a few rolls. Nothing key there and mostly 60s. Spending sounds like a good option on the cents

Keep anything pre 1982, and then hit me up on email. I can point you in the right direction to help get these sold if you're interested in making a small profit. :)

I can think of hundreds of nice doubled dies that can be found in the Memorial cent series. A list would be practically endless.

This says nothing about repunched mintmarks. You need to take the time to look through everything with a fine toothed comb and a good magnifying glass:-). Older Lincolns that are in nice shape offer some really nice possibilities of finding good coins.

Thanks,
Bill
