This coin was my one of my father's. I have been trying to figure out exactly what it is. I believe its Byzantine but I can not seem to find anything identical to it. Just similar in design (solidus) but nothing that is an exact match. Hoping you all could help me out or let me know if this isn't legit.

Thank you.

It is, or at least purports to be, a solidus of emperor Theodosius II. Theodosius II is usually classified as "Roman" rather than "Byzantine" as he ruled prior to the collapse of the Western empire, though his territory correlated to what would eventually become the Byzantine half of the Empire. Do a Google search for "Theodosius II solidus" and you should find plenty of similar examples.

Is it genuine? I'm very wary of Late Roman and early Byzantine gold - there's a lot of replicas of this type out there, made of good gold; ebay was flooded with them ten years ago or so. So at the very least, you should have a solid gold replica.
Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis
