In between the pages of the cards I found these amazing treasures!!! I have never heard of fractional currency until now! This is quite the find and I'm super excited! Cash was tight due to bank failures and the 1933 Bank Holiday. Stamp scrip was issued to attempt to provide liquidity for local markets. In order to pass it on, the holder had to pay for a one cent sticker (essentially a tax) and affix the sticker to the face. It could be redeemed once three stickers were affixed. The additional charge was likely to defray the cost of printing. The Fostoria notes are one of the most common types of Depression Scrip available. Report this Post to the Staff
