I've been kind of toying with the idea for awhile of trying to start a Lincoln Cents collection. I have a bunch of wheat cents from random finds at my job, and I will still continue to find some I'm sure

That said, one thing that's kind of stopped me until now was the fact that Dansco didn't seem to have any Lincoln Cent albums ANYWHERE.

They must be producing again though, because I looked today and they seem to have some available.

I was looking at either album 7100, which is 1909-2009 BU only or album 7103 which is basically just BU wheat cents.

It might be more fun to amass a huge collection over time from 1909 to 2009, as its a HUGE book with 8 pages!

That said, I know there are certain coins I am never going to obtain, like the 1909 S VDB. That doesn't bother me. I'll fill it in with something else. I know there are other keys for the wheat cents. The 1970 small date is also quite expensive I believe? Other then that, I don't think there are many other expensive coins. I could be wrong, though.

Any thoughts?

The early wheats can get a little expensive but this also depends on the grade as well the higher the grade the more you will pay.if you are not looking at high grades for the early years there are affordable.and may be able to find some coin roll hunting.

Get the 7100, amass some coins to rummage through, and begin the journey. I've filled (nearly filled...) five 7100s over the years.

Good luck with the journey. I have been filling the 8100 since 1985. I am down to two holes. I am sure you can guess which ones they are.

I have 2 complete sets of the Lincoln cents.

There are a few expensive coins like the:
1909 S
1911 S
1914 D
1924 D
1931 S

I don't do varieties so I skipped the 1922 (no d).

You can see my 2 sets here.

Dansco 7100 (1909 to 2021)

Wow! Those sets are fantastic!
I did purchase the 7100 album. Looking forward to it.

So what did you use to fill in the 1922 plain?

If you are going full BU album most of the early Lincolns (Pre 30) are going to be expensive.

No. I am keeping it cheap and looking through bank rolls. Lower grades are my thing.

I only used the "BU" term because thats what Dansco calls their non proof albums.

That sounds more better. A lot easier to do that way.

Dansco albums sure are nice but may not be the way you want to go with this. Consider the cost of the album at $45-$55. Then consider that you intend to fill it with low grade circulated coins. with few exceptions, only the earliest coins from 1909 thru 1915s which you are unlikely to find from circulation unless you already have them, would be worthy of such an album. Most of the wheats from 1941 and above have little value in circulated condition and unless you are including proof issues the Memorial cents and Shield cents likewise have little value in circulated condition. I know that many of us don't care for the old folders but that may be a better choice for low grade low value coins. Here is a link for some Dansco albums. Happy hunting!

I have three different (incomplete) Lincoln Cent sets going in three different albums.
Number one set is in blue Whitmans, and contains all the coins I have found
from various sources since I first started collecting around age seven.
Set number two is in Dansco and contains coins that pick up where the older
Whitmans leave off.
Set three is in the Intercept Shield green album which I picked up at an auction.
It contains a lot of coins which upgrade my childhood findings, and these plus the
others will 'eventually' be consolidated into one master set, with the extras being
sold off, either here or on ebay.
Any way you decide to collect these coins, it will be a fun and challenging project.
Good luck to you, and be sure to post your progress.

The 7100 has 1922 weak D that came in the Raymond Waite album I purchased. The 7103 has a really nice Wheat cent that I out in reverse side out.

I've been tempted to get a 1922 no D, but for the $400/$600 a low grade one will cost, I'll just pass. You can find Weak D that shows no sign of the D naked eye for around $100-$200.

Interesting! Yeah... I'm not paying 400-600 dollars on a coin lol

My Dansco was shipped today. I also took to ebay and made a few purchases just to get started on the first page.

Ordered a 1909, 1916, 1916-S, and a 1920. All Philadelphia minted except the S obviously.

I got a low-grade no D off of ebay for under $100.
