I bought this off of USA CB. I have to work with a tight budget, so this is all I can afford for now. It's a 1803 P Draped Bust Large Cent. I'm happy to add it to my Classic coin collection.

Looks like the "Small Date", "Large Fraction" variety which is more common. But the date is mostly there so pretty good for a type coin!

Thank you, Marve65. I was wondering where I can get the information you just told me. Is there a good source? Just trying to learn, since I hardly know anything about Classic coin varieties.

Somebody else may be able to help you on that. The quick source I use isn't allowed on this site.

That's fine, or you can PM me with the source. Either way is fine with me.

Nice addition, and it's great that it could be attributed! It's always fun trying to imagine the history that coin has seen.

I'd submit it for certification. What is the Lowest Graded for the date? Straight-graded PR-1 Draped Busts are scarce. I got this for $4 from ebay; it has to be an 1813 S-292, so it's not hopeless for a Pr-1

OldGrouchyGuy, the lowest graded 1803 Draped Bust Large Cent on PCGS is PR-01. https://www.pcgs.com/coinfacts/coin...tion-bn/1485 Yours is nice too.

1803 S-261. That obv die was the one that was later used to create the 1804 restrike cent. Key identifying feature is a strong arc crack on the obv from 9:00 to 6:00 that bisects the date. It is strongest toward 6:00 and can clearly be seen on your coin.
