1883 V Nickel Cud, Why Do Dentals Look Doubled On Opposite Side Of Cud?

Petespockets55 Pillar of the Community United States 5770 Posts	Posted 04/13/2025 08:13 am That's a nice Cud. The "doubling" on the denticles is probably MD. Nickels are well known for MD because of the hardness of the metal. Directly opposite a Cud, on the other face, can sometimes show weakness to the devices (design). This effect is from extra metal flowing to into the Cud instead of the design as intended. Words of encouragement are one of the major food groups. With the chasm of the Cud filling with metal when struck, there is not enough material to fully define the dentils on the other side. Suffering from bust half fever.
