I'm not sure if this is the appropriate place to post this rather than the sales promotion forum, but I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for where/how to sell a decent number of coins, both raw and slabbed alike, whose values are directly tied to the die variety rather than the type or year.

I've decided that I need to start selling coins that I've accrued so that I can maintain a reasonably-sized collection and gradually update the coins in it. Since I collect coins primarily by die variety, I want to be able to get as close to the full value as possible, so I'm looking for instance for a dealer who specializes in these kinds of coins who is aware of the premiums that they can bring to the right audience.

Examples of the kinds of varieties I'm talking about include early bust coinage by die variety (e.g. dimes and quarters prior to 1838 by their JR or Browning variety) and more modern or classic coins collected for RPMs, RPDs, DDOs, DDRs, etc (some being Fivaz-Stanton varieties, but many which are not).

Unfortunately I don't have the time to sell them all individually on ebay, which is why I'm hoping to sell them to an appropriate coin dealer instead. Any advice?

If you are looking for a quick sale, then a dealer is your
best bet but you will only get 50-60% of their value.

One option would require a significant amount of upfront time, but will reach a large audience and have a good chance to obtain fair value. If you have a good inventory of the coins, you can send lists to dealers, with links to a cloud storage where they can view photos of the individual coins. The photos should include whole obverse, reverse, and (where appropriate) edge photos, along with detail photos of key markers to verify the attribution. Invite contact from the dealers regarding specific coins, and also provide an option to purchase the whole collection or subcollections.

Another option is to bring the coins or selections to local or regional shows and invite dealers to review them and make offers.

If the coins are TPG certified, another option might be other or dealer-specific online auctions.

Just a couple thoughts.

How many coins are we talking about here? It's not exactly rocket science to sell coins on ebay. I think a bigger challenge would be arriving at realistic prices for non-CPG varieties.

For me the collection and study of variety coins is all about a specialist branch of numismatics, and that is where the fun and interest lies.
As such, the selling of them for a hoped profit is somewhat foreign to my way of thinking.

Just continue your lifetime interest with the study of varieties, and not even to bother to think about selling any of them.
If you loose interest, just put them aside, perhaps taking up on them again later on.

Thanks for the input! For reference, I'm talking about somewhere around 100-200 coins.

And I'm not hoping to sell these for a profit necessarily, just for a fair price. I was thinking about consignment with a dealer or something like that since at least half of them are not slabbed.

If there is substantial value, I work at Stack's Bowers and would happily help you along the consignment process if you wish to go that route. Shoot me an email through my profile if you are interested.
