Has the Mint ever halted production of a series before it was complete like they did with the American Innovations Proof coins? Leaving it half finished does not sit well with me. I also am a little confused with their reason of getting rid of them to make room for new items. Were the sales that bad?

Indeed, it is a boneheaded decision. Now I will have a Dansco album missing with a bunch of empty holes.

Yeah that is very disappointing. At least we still have the RPs.

Sure. At least half my remaining holes will get filled. For those who do not know, I have only bought proof and reverse proof and have been putting them in a Dansco P&D album.

I guess you could put uncirc examples in the proof holes with an asterisk by each if empty slots are going to keep you from sleeping.

That is my plan. I do not like it, but that is my only option.

Has any other series been stopped mid stream?

I looked at my tracking sheet and I don't see any modern series that stopped mid stream, but then again I could have missed something as I don't collect everything the mint releases. There have been gaps such as 2009 for the ASE program; no proof or uncirculated ASEs were made.

Quote: Has any other series been stopped mid stream? First thing that comes to mind, even if it is not really the same thing... Satin Finish Uncirculated coins. Started in the middle of the Statehood Quarters and ended just as the ATB Quarters just got started.

I was collecting proofs but sold them when the end became official.
I bought reverse proofs and hope they make it to the end of the series.
Honestly, some designs look better as proofs, while others look better as reverse proofs.
Someday, I might get both sets and create a hybrid collection of the designs I like best.

Quote: Honestly, some designs look better as proofs, while others look better as reverse proofs. This is the truth. I used that to justify my buying both. If I had not already bought the P&D album, I could have bought a date set album and done that with the ones I have already bought and finish it out with regular proofs.

Skipping a year of proof ASEs and 2 years of the Uncirculated are similar, holes that will never get filled.

One could argue about empty 2026 holes in their Kennedy half dollar and Roosevelt dime albums.

I am glad none of my holes have labels since I am keeping the 2026 OGPs intact.
