Hi, I was wondering about the collector value of 1996 Olympics coins. I see there are a lot for sale on ebay for sizable money, but precious few bidders. I have four uncirculated dollars - blind runner, gymnastics, track and field, and cycling; and two uncirc. halves - baseball and basketball. All in the original packaging and the halves still have the pins. Are these worth anything or are they just a nice souvenir of my trip to Atlanta?

Thanks,
Tom

Hi Tom and

I believe at this time, the coins are a nice keepsake of the 1996 Olympics.

I just bought a quartet of Commemorative Half Dollars from ebay (I will need them for my 7070 US Coin Type album). Your 1995 Atlanta Olympics for Baseball was one of them. I purchased the whole set for $36. I thought it was a good deal but I was the only bidder.

The 4 Commemorative Halfs:

I suspected as much. Oh well. The reverses of some are starting to take on some nice toning; it'll be nice to see what they look like in another 14 years.

Nice group of coins! I have the Statue of Liberty also (actually, the proof set). Thanks for the input and the welcome!

Looks like some of the olympic coins are worth more than others. Obviously due to mintage. I usually pick up Uncs instead of proofs due to the lower mintage. Nice group of Commems Moe! I especially like the eagles! I have about 6 each (proof and unc) of the Washington half and 4 of the statue of Liberty (3 in prestige sets). The mintage is pretty high on them so I don't expect to see much of an increase over time (Unless commemorative collecting really takes off). But on the upside...least the Washington half is silver!
