Remember the game show "Let's Make A Deal"? Monte Hall used to pull those things out of his pockets for prizes!

I worked in a large bank for years and the only time the $1000 notes were used was mainly for novelty (e.g. a wealthy customer decidine he'd like one to show off to his friends). They were pointless really.
I believe that larger denominations mainly were used in transactions between banks. I agree that "back in the day" they were pretty pointless in the average persons hands. But...In todays world, where it takes 5 or 10 dollars to buy what 1 dollar used to...larger denominations aren't a bad idea!

Monty Hall, who is from Winnipeg, mentioned recently in an interview that they had about ten of each of the $500 and $1000 bills, and they were for show only, because they looked good on camera -- the winners didn't actually get to keep them.

Is the federal reserve trying to take these notes out of circulation?

Anything over $100 has not freely circulated since 1969, there is a recall order on them so any turned into a bank will be sent back to the Fed for shredding.

so we end up with metallic strips in our currency, heaven forbid we have too much in hand or hidden. So much easier to find.

jeez, this fiat money is nothing but junk, not even good looking junk at that.

Do you think Henry Paulsons signature will be known for anything more than the guy that bailed out the banks?

BTw, I like the looks of that $500.00 note. Who's on it? Chester A. Arthur?

I think that is McKinley. Has Pres Garfield been on any currency? He is the only assassinated US president that I can think of who is not.
