Picked from an auction, this example of
1941 25¢ DDR-012 has extreme thickness and distortion in most reverse lettering. Wexler considers this a
Best of 1941 25¢ WDDR-002. The clunky boot shape of the L in Pluribus reminded me of
Buffalo nickel DDRs, and sure enough, this quarter had a catalog entry.
Die gouge under the T is present (VV); die scratch through the S is present (Wex). I couldn't find the die crack through the wing and QU, but I couldn't determine if this is an earlier die state or whether the die crack got erased by circulation wear.
