While sorting through a partial roll of 1931 tenth pennies from British West Africa - 32 in all - I noticed a crack near the crown of the obverse. As I continued to sort, I found another coin with the same crack in the same place plus a second crack through George's name. That led me back to the first coin, which upon closer inspection, had the same second crack. Naturally, I went back to the already sorted pile and found five more coins with the same two cracks. In addition to the cracks there is doubling to George's name that is more or less clear depending on the coin. Unfortunately, I don't think my pictures - the best I can do - capture this doubling as well as the coin in hand. Sorry about that. What do you all make of this? I have my own thoughts but wanted to hear from the experts first. (FYI: For the individual pictures below, I started from the coin in the bottom left of the group picture and snaked my way to the top going left to right.)

What do you all make of this?

Seems to me that these were all struck by the same die at around the same time. Or are you seeing those die cracks differ in length for different coins?

To me, it looks like the same cracks more or less pronounced. Same with the doubling.

Thanks Dearborn and Spence. I know they're not valuable coins but I thought they were interesting enough to share.

A nice progression of Die Ceacks from the same die pair. Pretty neat.
