OK, I've touched on this topic before, but that was months ago...new time, new views!

I have a collection of LHPs that my dad started back in the 50's. They are currently stored in those old blue Whitman folders. Most of these were taken from circulation, so it's not like any of them are better than VF condition.

Lately I've been filling in some of the holes by buying a few of the tougher dates here and there. But I am not sure if I want to put them in that old folder, or keep them (or in some cases place them) in a 2 x 2 and maybe putting them in a binder.

And if I do that, should I just unload all the blue albums, put them in 2 x 2s and put them in a binder? And for that matter I've gathered quite a few decent Wheaties from roll searching. At what point do people put them in 2 x 2s or flips? Do they have to be a certain grade? Do they have to be worth at least MORE than the 2 x 2 or flip that houses them?

Inquiring minds wanna know.

i am putting together a Wheat cent set in f-xf and most of the dates are not worth a whole lot in that grade so I have them in 2x2 and I put them in a binder. I am now on mostly the tougher more valuable dates and I will be using bad thads method of placing them in an air tite then in a 2x2 in the binder.

i did have a dansco for most of my circulation sets but I thought that was pretty stupid to spend that money on a dansco when I can just put them in 2x2 plus another reason why I like 2x2 is because I can right grade, date, mintage, and what the coin is made of on them.

I also have some old albums and wonder if they give off any chemicals that may affect the condition of coins over time.

I agree with Scott3270! I personally feel better seeing them on a 2x2 with all the coin's info on the 2x2 and 2x2 are not all that expensive.

My feeling is that there is no rule on a price, or condition on what to put your coins in. It is all a matter of what you like, and feel you can afford.

A couple of nice things about the 2x2's are that you can see both sides of the coin, whereas in the old blue Whitman folders you can only see the one side. That was a big selling point for me to get mine out of those older blue folders.

Second thing is that the coins are not exposed to the open air when they are not in the open folders. Unless you use the airtights, they will still be exposed in 2x2's, depending on how you fasten them.

Most of the newer folders, like Dansco, and the new Whitman folders, and others that I am forgetting, but not on purpose, are made without the chemicals that can harm your coins.

I like the Dansco for my LWC's & LMC's mostly because it is easier to upgrade by just popping it out. With a 2x2 you have to replace it or pull the staples. The Dansco is also easier to store as a 2x2 sleeves go into a binder which we all know is larger.

I had mine in the H. E. Harris folders but as I started acquiring more of the key dates I decided it was time to put them in a Dansco. I have some extras that I keep in 2 x 2's.

I use the NON-PVC flips and heat seal them and put them in a D-ring binder works great for me.

Those Whitman folders stink....they can hold moisture. Airtites, 2x2's and binder pages FTW!

I have an old Vacuum sealer that the pump doesn't work but the sealing part does, works great. I have seen smaller ones also search ebay you can get them under $25
