Fantastic eye appeal! The obverse was absolutely hammered!
It would likely be "market graded" as MS but I believe it's AU55/58. No matter though because it's worth MS money regardless of the grade.
Love the luster peaking out around LIBERTY too!

That is one great looking coin ! Love the die cracks, and it is a very nice strike. Since this is the grading forum I guess I'll take a shot. In my limited exposure to large copper, I have to say the Large Cents rank second only to Gold Coins as far as difficulty in grading ! I am going to say this one is an MS coin, probably MS-63. I don't see any wear on the coin, just some scattered contact marks. A very eye appealing coin.
A group of large cents came into the shop a month or so ago, and I took a look through them to see if I liked any of them. These were some nice Large Cents ! If I am remembering right I was immediately drawn to this same coin ! Well, same die anyway. The one I looked at was a dark chocolate brown, but I remember the die cracks, and it was a beauty ! I am going to find this coin if I can tomorrow , and post the long lost triplet ! I shied away from it when the Owner decided it was probably an MS-63 or better coin...gets a bit pricey at that level ! When I spotted it, I figured it for AU...and it looked just like this one minus the red ...I am hoping I learned from that grading lesson.

well, I know what Daves was graded by NGC 2 times (was higher the first time around and got a point downgrade the second grading submission) but I will wait for a few others to chime in on grade before I reveal what his was graded at

I think there is a trace of rub along the edge of Liberty's coronet, her cheek, and the edge of the bust. I presume the surfaces are original although the toning around OF on the reverse looks different from the rest of the coin. If this is one of the famous Randall hoard coins then I presume it is in fact mint state, but it has the look of an AU-58 based on these photos. It's a very cool coin; wish I had one!

N-10, and a nice one. I particularly like the vestiges of original red in the headband; that's a really nice look. However, these things come strongly struck and retain mint luster to this day, especially Randall Hoard examples. So, I'm gonna go all EAC on you and call it AU55.

I don't know if I'm wrong, but this one looks like its missing a lot of the denticles, would that mean its a weak strike?

Heh. Who's better than me? Quote: I don't know if I'm wrong, but this one looks like its missing a lot of the denticles, would that mean its a weak strike?
Die Deterioration. Here's the reverse of mine, for comparison - note the weak outer edges: For the record, I bought it in an MS63 slab, cracked it for the 7070, and it re-slabbed at 62 when I went to resell.

Ah, thanks for clearing that up. Terrible luck, I agree with the 63 : (

Quote: Terrible luck, I agree with the 63 : ( Yeah, there was a little financial pain associated with that one. I still made money, due to the excellent price Chris McCawley gave me initially, but I left a couple hundred bucks on the table with that downgrade.
