It's been soaked in an acidic environment. It is man made and not an error.

Please get in the habit of including the denomination in your thread titles. I will ask a Moderator to do so on your behalf for this one.

Yes, damage. Likely an acid exposure issue. If the rim was more pronounced, I'd be thinking Dryer Coin.

I don't think that acid is the culprit, as that tends to shrink the letters and numbers, not flatten / fatten them. Maybe a rock tumbler?

Looks like a Dryer Coin. It's PMD, not an error.
