Hi all,

I'd really appreciate input on this 1954-S Jefferson nickel I found today.

The reverse shows what looks to be a pretty dramatic retained lamination across "E PLURIBUS UNUM," with a clear flap lifting up over the "U." The metal appears to be peeling, and there are deep surface breaks and disruptions across Monticello, especially near the center and right columns.

There's also some strange texture and metal loss around the "MONTICELLO" lettering and above the dome — maybe a combination of a lamination flaw and a struck-through event?

Is this a classic retained lamination error?

Any idea what this might be worth to an error collector if authenticated?

Here are some close-up shots for reference. Let me know if more are needed — happy to provide full obverse/reverse views too.

Thanks in advance for any help or insight!

Fun find but not really worth that much in that worn condition. The rest that you are asking about below the retained lam is just the continuation of the lam where some has been lost.

Nice find. Not worth much, since it's worn from circulation. Not worth slabbing, but still a cool find.
