1998-LMC-Die-Break-/-Chip-Or-DDO?

Hello;
So here (to me) is an interesting one. Trying to determine whether this is a die break with a partial detention, or something better. Of course, I don't see any DDO's on Wexler's, only DDR's. So I guess that probably answers my question.

Thanks

You have a copper plated zinc cent that are common to have plating issues, which yours has. Split plating and corrosion going on underneath. Not a good thing and definitely no added value, spend it.

A couple of links.

Thank You.
Decided to try something other than nickels
Pennies seem tougher for me - hard to see things on these darn zincs - too much reflection and not enough quality
Maybe I'll just start off with pre-82's!

Thought it looked like some retention (LOL - I wrote Detention originally) on the left side of the "I"
Hard to see in the pics

Zincolns can be tough, just had this conversation on another thread. I will eventually be moving towards nickels, I like them. They may be next on the going away list though.... Coppers are definitely better if you mess with cents though, even though there are some nice zincoln varieties and errors out there. They are on there way out, either way, at least over time. I guess enjoy them while you can.

I agree, Split Plating. It's common on these, since they're copper plated.

Its possibly a hard strike on the zinc copper plate that causes this?
If I recall it creates the impression (like a second image/aura) around the strike. The plated copper separates from the zinc and the separation doesn't happen right at first. the separation starts when the coin might be in a high heat dryer/chemicals/ etc that will break down the copper plating around the strike zone.

Im new to this and I had a similar penny and investigated the issue. I wish I could remember the article I read.
