After shipping both coins are priced within $10.00 of each other. There are things I like about each coin, but, obviously, I only need one of them.

Example One Specs:
DOMITIAN Caesar, AR Denarius.
69-81 AD. Rome mint.
Obv. CAESAR AVG F DOMITIANVS. Laureate head right. Rev. COS IIII. Pegasus standing right, raising foreleg. 20mm, 2.98g. RIC 921 (Vespasian).
Very Fine.

Example Two Specs:
Grade: AVF
Catalog: RIC II Vesp. 921; RSC II 47; RCV I 2637
Material: Silver
Weight: 3.00 g
Diameter: 19.10 mm
Obv.: Laureate head r.: CAESAR AVG F DOMITIANVS
Rev.: Pegasus stg. r., l. front leg raised: COS IIII

I wouldn't consider the second based on the mushy obverse alone.

Yeah, the portrait on Ex. #1 is much better. But I kinda like Pegasus on the second one.

@flo, can you share a little bit more about your collecting goals? For example, if you are putting together a set of caesars then you will be focused on the obverses, but if you are wanting horses or magical animals then you would be focused on the reverses. Since the two coins seem to have clear "best" sides, this could help direct your decision.

Ohh... that is a great point! I'm focused on the Caesars, so the obverse should be my focus, therefore Example 1 should be the one to buy (but the horse looks so cool!)

Well the iridescent colors are not a problem for me. Looks kind of neat and here is an NGC graded one with that toning. So all of that said, I like the second one as it has two wings. In this series, from a quick acsearch look, when the wing is curled up you see one wing, but when the wing is sweeping back, like both of these have, the second wing is usually visible. I do see one other like your first one without a hint of a second wing, so maybe the artist only showed one wing sometimes.

Honestly... I'd buy whichever one I saw first, and stop looking. The question of "choice" would only come up if the same coin dealer happened to be selling both of them at the exact same time.

Being forced to choose, I would choose number 1 (the top one), simply because it seems to be less worn, with more detail surviving on the high points.
