Sold a quarter-ounce gold eagle and purchased 17 Morgan dollars. These ended up being about $49.96 per coin. They were in a box marked BU but it is likely that it had some sliders and all were common date. Tried to pick out the best ones in the box. Will post one a day so as to not bury other threads looking for grading. As always, I welcome your thoughts. Thanks! Not sure if it's showing a weak strike or circulation wear, but I'll guess high AU.

I remember during the during the Morgan dollar craze in the 1980s, common date BU Morgans sold for $80 while gold was $300/oz. That was ~3.75 Morgans to 1oz of gold. Seems surreal that it is ~67 to 1 now. Everyone seems to prefer gold to silver. Seemed like a good time to place a trade the other way. Looks like a weak strike to me. I'm at MS62.

Typical O mint weak strike. I think there is a touch of wear on the cheek. I think it is a slider.
I think you are on to something with the contrarian trade.

Just an observation but is it common to have these vertical lines running across her hair and earlobe. They look like polishing marks but inside the devices and so distinct seems odd. I don't collect US silver dollars so forgive me if this is a foolish question. Picture cropped from original post.  |

Nice gold to silver arbitrage. I'd say MS-63. The roller marks in the hair are a bit distracting.

Though poorly struck it appears MS imo. Depending on the luster, that's hard to read in these images, it could go 62 or as high as 64. My guess is MS63. I like the coin as an example of a poor New Orleans strike which can be educational.

MS-62 but the roller marks are a bit distracting and might knock that down to 61. Reverse is very nice.

Hounddog Bill just to add to your knowledge base on these coins. die polish lines would never cross over any devices and would be very fine hairlines for the most part. the 83(O) can be a bit soft so this is normal for the year. the dark streak across LIBERTY could be from improper storage. fenton called it as roller marks so it came out of the mint like this. I do think it would not affect grade but value. the coin has the appearance that it was circulated. AU58 however more like AU55 value wise |

O mint strike issues. I think this one makes MS-64.
