Quite a few Bust halves got to the shop owners desk this week , and I told him I would see if I could get some help with attributing a couple of the more interesting ones. If any other pics are needed , let me know, I don't want to post ten pics if not needed ! Thanks in advance for you help, the Bust Half Nuts around here are always helpful and very accurate.
I am becoming more fond of these every day....

Just a quick guess -- O-105; R-4. Don't have my reference books with me now.

This one's gonna be fun.

I don't like O-105 for it; the position of the 8 in the date is uncharacteristically low (I'm surprised Overton doesn't discuss this relatively-scarce feature). My leaning is O-118 due to the upper penetration of Line 3 in Stripe 1, but the 5 in 50 seems wrong and it lacks the lower penetration of Line 2 in Stripe 5.

I gotta go out this morning; we'll be revisiting this one.

SuperDave, I do believe you may be onto something, my attribution of O-105 is indeed incorrect.

You realize, Ben, that it's pretty much inevitable that I'm going to go completely over the edge with Busties some day, right?

Can you explain "penetration"?

I do see how some of the vertical stripes appear to be flush at the top with the horizontal line. Is that what your talking about?

When attributing Busties, the term "stripe" refers to the full set of 3 verticals in the shield; there's 6 of them in each shield. "Line" refers to one of the individual stripes which make up the set of 3. The horizontals are called "crossbars."

Sometimes these lines/stripes and crossbars are cut too long, and extend too far upwards/downwards or sideways. I dunno for sure why - maybe die touchup during its' lifetime, considering they're "negatives" on the die - but I use the term "penetration" to refer to those lines/crossbars which extend too far into the adjoining features. These are often the characteristic attribute of a given Overton variety.

Okay, I can see how several of the lines of the stripes extend into crossbars now. Thanks.

I had my book out last night on this one...but I thought I'd had it narrowed down to 2 or 3, but then.........my eyes quit working right. This one would be much easier with coin in hand.

Thanks for the time you have taken thus far in attributing this one, I really appreciate it. Not being real familiar with these yet, I thought this one did not have alot of distinguishing characteristics, but I liked the surfaces on it. Thanks again !
