Most of Motto (rev.) is readable in hand as well as some of Liberty (obv.) Pics. are scans and are off color a bit as well as not very sharp so difficult to actually see the Motto and Liberty. WE TRUST is visible in hand and LIBERTY most of L and Y visible. I believe the critera for an F grade would be all readable. Is that correct ? Jaobler Pillar of the Community United States 6394 Posts	Posted 05/29/2009 6:12 pm I'd give it VG-08 also. The obverse nicks are somewhat distracting but not too bad given the level of wear. The color and surfaces look original. You are correct that a readable LIBERTY is normally required for F-12, although that standard might be relaxed slightly for Carson City coins which are often a bit weak in this area. If this one had a bit more LIBERTY visible (or perhaps if it didn't have those nicks) it might have stretched to VG-10. Still, this is a very presentable example of this scarce and valuable date. The '74-CC is the rarest issue of the "with arrows, with motto" Seated half dollar type (Variety 5 in the Red Book). Congratulations! Report this Post to the Staff

There is also a possibility it may be an earlier date planchet. Will see on that at the error forum. The coin was left to my stepdad when his brother passed on. He has a pretty decent collection and I am going through a few at a time for him. This one I may be able to pick up :) Report this Post to the Staff
