well ... I don't have the extra cash to purchase air tights and I read that flips are not air tight when you just staple them and was wondering it may be a poor mans solution to my delima

I've ever heard of an archival quality scotch tape. But I agree, a better method than staples has to be found for closure of a 2x2. Ever have a staple that didn't quite close right? and scratch the coin filed in the box behind it? Ticked me off! luckily it was a low dollar coin!

Another downside to scotch tape is usually after several years the tape hardens and gets brittle and may cause your coins to fall out.

well I was thinking of doing both and there are many types of tape that may be better

I wonder if they make an archival quality glue stick, that you could run along the outer edge of the 2x2 before you close it and staple it?

if it was a glue stick you could easily do smaller denominations, half dollar and dollars would be tricky. I wouldn't even try it unless it was an archival safe glue.

What you need is an archival two sided tape. That would seal much better than staples. That's something I'm going to look into. Bill

There are of course self-adhesive 2x2s you can buy - some brands of which no doubt use this same double-sided tape, already cut out and stuck on for you.

I use the Lighthouse 2x2 self-adhesives. I used another brand before that and they kept coming open and I'd have to staple them anyway. But once the Lighthouse ones are closed, they're CLOSED, jack! Quiet, too, for late-at-night 2x2'ing or in case the repetitive clickclickclick of the stapler irritates any SO's in the area.
