Hi Friend

I have more than 1982 pennies. I have been asking to AIs and they are a little contradictory on the scale of value for some on the varieties.

My understanding it is that both Denver and Philadelphia both produced 4 variety each. With 3.5 grams and 2.5 grams but also large and small date.

the jewelry of the crown it is the D 3.5 grams Small Date, with only one reported as on possession. That is clear.

It looks like the Large Dates do not carry any value except for in nominals value 1 cent. Even though it was made on Cooper and Zinc varieties.

But in the Small Dates things turn HOT, because the Cooper and Zinc looks like who has more value on auctions it is not clear even for which AI you ask.

Some say Cooper always because it represents a transitional metal, but other AI states that Zinc because it is rarer.

Can any clarify this issue?

As see 6 chances? with only clear for me who is at the top.

Denver 3.11 grams, small date.

All other 5 possibilities lost me!!!!. Because the Cooper metal should have a value over Zinc, I guess.

Thanks friends for your input!

Only the 1982 D small date copper (3.1 grams) has any considerable value. That is the rare one. All others only begin to have a nominal value in grades of MS-65 and above. Circulated coins are only worth face value except that those made of copper are better than those made of zinc simply because of the metal content.

Well said MisterT. I will just add, two of the D sm. date copper are know with a rumor of a third, I believe both were auctioned by Heritage for around 10,000 each.

Good to know how many sm date copper 82 pennies really do exist! I have seen a lot of them sold on ebay listed as small date copper 1982 penny. Maybe I should ask the ones that have sm date copper 82 pennies up for sale on ebay how much they weigh or tell them to research how many there really are of those.

I'm brand new in the learning process, but even to me, seems like there are a lot of mislabeled coins on ebay!
