My brother showed me this coin which was part of a cache our Dad had acquired as bullion investment. There are intermittent levels of high and lower areas in the fields. Behind the head is a raised "island" area surrounded by the lower field, and then other lower areas where the stars and the date are located. To the left of the date there are 3 stars that are also in the lower level, and then upward the other stars are on the raised field area.
Could this be a planchet error? Or something else?
Thanks for taking a look.

Very cool looking! Not sure if it was from a damaged planchet or just extreme deterioration, leaning towards the latter though. Yours would appear to be a 17 berry reverse and I looked through the die crack guide to see what VAM's were like your cracking and then looked at each listing, in hopes of finding a die that looked like what you had going on in the fields. That being said, there are several and I could not find one that had the look of your damage. Here is a link to the crack guide though, if you would like to take a look.

Thanks for responding makecents and jbuck.
I did check the Vamworld Die Break guide and I could not find anything that looks like the die cracks, or the raised and depressed areas in the fields on the obverse of this coin Is this possibly worthy of attribution as a new VAM? If so, where should I submit it for examination?

Don't know that it is a new VAM but you could send it to VSS and have it attributed and slabbed very inexpensively. Here is the link. https://varslab.com/vamslab.html
