I picked this up in an auction recently. While I prefer raw coins, this was the next best thing. So what do you all think the TPG gave this one?

My first thought was VF20 but I could see a F15 also, gotta go with my first thought then VF20 so close to an in between grade like 18. LOL

I'm with Westcoin, an in between grade if there were a F-18. Nice eye appeal and circulation cameo. I say F-15 and choice for the grade.

WOW!!! Fantastic pickup, even disregarding the phenomenal surfaces and choice eye appeal. A super difficult die marriage to find "just right." I don't think you can get better than this for a circulated 1812/1 Large 8. I'm jealous  VF-25

my grade and what TPG's see on these are way different. ive seen them take strike into consideration and just net the grade and ive seen them treat it as wear. all depends on who handles it and their experience with the series. i see the rev at XF40, obv at VF20. I'm netting it at VF25, i'd be shocked if it had an F in front of it.

Thank you for the feedback ,everyone! PCGS graded this one VF25, which I think is fair. I'll post a pic of the slab tomorrow after work or over the weened and share some additional details on this pickup.

Here's the holder, unattributed, and the auction listing was for a generic 1812. I found the listing over a week before auction close, so had plenty of time to sort out if and how much to bid. Ended up dropping a last second bid and walked away with a delivered price about 1/2 of Greysheet retail for VF25.  The LG8 is known for not being very unattractive no matter the grade. Before purchasing, I wanted to see how it stacked up to the 3 PCGS and 1 NGC VF25 (NGC lists 2, but one was crossed over to PCGS) in addition to a few VF20 and VF30. So here is what I had to compare to (some with green beans) and I thought this coin stacked up well for overall condition and eye appeal. PCGS VF20 CAC  PCGS VF25 (crossed over from NGC holder)  PCGS VF25 CAC  PCGS VF25 CAC  PCGS VF30  PCGS VF30
