Thanks again to everyone who was so helpful in identifying the coin. I have another question ... any idea of the value on this piece, also a family item? I remember having purchased it for my father probably 50-some years ago.

I believe it's a 1923 Liberty silver dollar ... and the mint mark appears to be an S.

It appears to be in very nice condition. Thank you for any information

It's best to not post multiple coins in the same thread, but to start a new thread so members know to respond to new information.

Your second coin is a 1923 Peace dollar. Captured in the bezel it's worth silver melt value.

The mint mark (if any) is actually on the reverse side of the coin above the legend ONE. What you are seeing on the obverse below the neck is the designer Anthony de Francisci monogram.

the coin would be considered damaged and does not have any collector value. the value of the coin would then be in relationship to the current silver value. for this coin it would be about $26

Agreed. Only value it has is silver melt value.
