Hi everyone,
I'd appreciate your help confirming a potential error on this 2023-D Jovita Idar quarter from the
American Women Quarters program.
To the left of her face, in the open field, I've observed a group of raised, looping marks. These are visible to the naked eye and even more distinct under magnification. The marks appear raised, smooth, and not part of the intended design. They don't appear to be damage — they look die-based.
Based on positioning and shape, I'm wondering if this could be:
A die gouge
A retained die chip
Possibly early signs of progressive die damage or failure
I'm including a full reverse photo of the coin, a matching obverse photo, and several microscope close-ups at various magnifications. I'd really appreciate any input — especially whether this looks like a known variety or something worth attributing or submitting for grading.
Thanks so much in advance!
—B
