Found this coin recently. It's my first Shield nickel, and first toned coin. the rainbow circles the entire coin. Is it worthy of grading? I half heartedly ask, mostly think it's worth $4-$5. Glad that there are so many collectors who are able to give input. Thanks in advance

Hard to tell from the photos as they're a bit fuzzy, but from what I can see I'd have said it's in Fine condition, which my 2020 Red Book gives a value of around $50. Could be in better condition, but I don't want to be overly optimistic. Seems like the reverse is in better condition than the obverse, although the reverse looks to have damage. Hard to see where it would be worth getting graded unless it has a repunched date, but I can't discern that from the photos. Even then, it depends on what you want to do with it and how much you paid for it. Toning is interesting but also hard to see.

Thank you Buffalo. I went to a coin shop nearby, was buying a few coins, the owner of the shop was sorting coins, came up too me and handed me the coin. I agreed with him that it had a unique look. He told me to keep the coin, that it was mine. I wasn't expecting that, and it made my day. There are some incredible people in this world. When you have a coin graded, does the toning remain the same, grow, or fade?

Always nice to hear a positive story coming from a coin shop! I say put this into a 2x2 for safe-keeping.

Nice coin, but not worth slabbing.

Found where? And no not worthy of a slab. A "common" type coin with around 15 million minted. The grading fees would be way more than the nickel is actually worth.
