1970 D Dime with odd error or damage on obverse

im at a loss at this time to determine how this could happen, see image.

the valley is visually equal in depth,,falls short of the torch at one end and the rim on the other,, as though this is not a coin machine damage or anything like what we usually see.

im thinking planchet error?

I do not know if this is a variety or not, did not see any example on wexler.

Not a planchet error or a variety, it looks like a small Struck Through.
In the future please post a photo of the complete coin along with the closeup.
This helps to give us a better perspective of the coin.

I think Struck Through Thread is a strong possibility. It doesn't look like there is a plow line of raised metal from a scrape.

as in a "strike through grease"?

die crack would leave a raised area,, this is a dry river bed like impression,,
wondering if it was stamped and a piece of fabric or hair was on the DIE,, in otherwords maybe a dirty die?

Not grease. Thread or some other stringy debris.

ok,, understood,,,,

in this forums experience,, what are the odds there is another like it?
im thinking only if the thread was stuck to the Die then the possibility of yes for maybe just a few like 10 or so,, not sure if this has value or not or any desireabilty. I find coins,, put them up and one day my boys can dual it out as to who gets what when I check out.. LOL

Impossible to say, there could be one, there could be more.

ive tried a couple times to correct post 1 content from obverse to reverse.. getting returned a statement that the post cannot be edited for 24hrs,, contact the moderator etc.

the reason I did not post into the variety or errors subsection is because I had no idea if it was classified as either so ..........
