I collect U.S. type coins and didn't have a Three Cent Nickel in my collection. It's not a favorite design of mine, so I didn't want to spend a lot on an example. I saw this 1865 on ebay that looked nice for my winning auction bid. I certainly profess to not being an expert on this design. I consulted Photograde to try and find a grade match for my coin. While it has remarkably clean surfaces and I can' t detect any rub (at least to my less-than expert eye), the coin doesn't have much luster. I don't know how lustrous Three Cent Nickels tend to be. Anyway, your thoughts on this coin are most welcome. Thanks.   Paul Bulgerin

AU58. Usually I don't see the '65 without any die clashing. Some expected strike weakness. Wonderful surfaces.

I can see this one going Uncirculated. It's tough to find one with a relatively clean strike free of defects.

The seller had it marked as "Unc." on the holder, but I wasn't sure, never having owned a Three Cent Nickel before.

By the looks of it, I am thinking it's Uncirculated possibly.

sorry for the late response. this is a tough call due to the lighting. it could be hiding if the luster is still there. I'm not seeing signs of it. it could also be hiding any signs of wear which may be on the cheek, eyebrow and hair above the forehead. i'd only pull the string if you have return privileges

Hard to see the surfaces in these photos. Can't tell if there is any rubbing on the high points.
