Hey all, I took a chance on a no-date lowball Morgan this week and wanted to get a second opinion. I can't identify any remnants of the date, (even under microscope) however I noticed that the S mintmark looked small and low - too low to be a 1903 micro S. There's not much detail remaining on the coin but I thought the small S and style of the arrow-feathers might fit a 1921. I don't work with the '21s much so I was hoping to get some feedback from someone who does. Thanks as always.

I agree with you, it looks like a 1921-S. It has a wide right facing shoulder gap, making it 1901 or later. And the mintmark position is too low for a 1903-S VAM-2 (micro S). The mintmark size and location are consistent with 1921-S. Nice lowball!

If this coin can actually be identified by the mint mark as a one year type (1921-S), then PCGS would certify it as PO01.

Not that big a deal however as there are currently 31 PCGS PO01 certified for the 1921-S.

Still, a nice lowball.

@nickelsearcher I was surprised when I saw the population on CoinFacts. Again, I don't work with the 1921 Morgans much but I wouldn't have guessed there would be that many PO01s. Still, the handful that have sold online over the past few years have gone for around $300-400 which I would consider a success (assuming PCGS slabs it).

Definitely 1921 - look at the arrow feathers. They only looked like that on the 1921 reverse dies. And, as said earlier, the small mintmark is also diagnostic.

Let us know the results. It should come back as PO01.
