Good Afternoon Folks,

This is our first post. My son was going through some rolled coins and he found a Lewis & Clark nickel.

Thoughts on this? He's interested in the history, and of course what it might be worth. He thinks there is an error with the L and I touching in Liberty.

@tdub, first welcome to CCF. Second, those are really nice overall photos. Any chance of you adding a close-up of the area of interest to help us see what is going on with LIBERTY? Thx.

This coin is part of the 2004 Westward Journey series celebrating the bicentennial of the Louis and Clark expedition. It had a limited minting of one year. In Mint State condition the coin can fetch a nice profit. I do not see an error, but the coin appears to have a golden tone, which is popular. So congratulations, this is a very nice coin for your son's first effort.

Agree with all above. Coin appears to be in lightly circulated condition. Value would be 5 cents, perhaps 10-15 cents to someone who really loves to collect the Lewis & Clark series.

From the images provided, it does not appear that the L and I in Liberty are touching.
The 2004 and 2005 Nickels were produced as a short series - The Westward Journey consisting of:
2004 - "Peace Medal"
2004 - "Keelboat" (as shown in the initial post above)
2005 - "American Bison"
2005 - "Ocean in View"
