I'll go AU-50, seems to be softly struck in the centers. Stars and Lettering is strong. Beautiful example! I may have talked myself into AU-53.

I'm not into these at all, but that obv die looks way newer than the reverse die. look at the detail in the stars, lettering and date as opposed to the reverse. if I'm just looking at the obv I'm at AU50. I have no idea how the reverse plays into this one.

Thank you for your kind comments. This one was in an ICG EF40 holder and was happy to pay the "ICG discount." Paid $4,362 which I think was more than fair for this coin. I will post in-hand photos when the coin arrives. Let me know if you have any further thoughts. Thanks!

Beautiful coin, and a great snag at that price. This would catch attention quickly on any bourse floor. IMHO, the big question for PCGS or NGC especially would be whether the reverse planchet flaw details the coin. I have strong feelings on what they do with planchet flaws, because "grade" should only measure the state of preservation of the coin after it left the coining press. That said, they both tend to detail planchet flaws, at least if they are "prominent" and large (whatever "large" is). I would not detail this coin any more than I would detail a coin with an adjustment mark, because both of those situations are part of the history of early US coinage. This may be one of the situations where it is better to leave the coin in the ICG holder or keep it raw than to give the details brigade a shot. Regardless of their opinion, this is a nice coin and would make any collector proud to have it.
