The 1802 dollar is the lowest mintage draped bust dollar with the large eagle reverse at 41,650 coins struck. Thoughts? Thanks!

Thank you for your kind comments. This one is in an NCG XF40 holder. Paid $4,312, $50 less than the 1803, which was surprising because the 1802 was a much more difficult coin to find in nice condition. Perhaps due to the lower mintage, the 1802 tends to sell at a premium over the 1803. The splotchy toning probably had to do with the better pricing which I do not mind because I find the toning attractive, but others will likely differ. I will post in-hand photos when the coin arrives. Let me know if you have any further thoughts. Thanks!

possible they net graded this coin due to the grade and rarity as it looks like an old old cleaning.

This is one of the most difficult coin I have ever photographed. At first glance, I wanted to return it because the obverse is darker than the listing's pictures, but a closer look at the surfaces revealed really pleasing patina and a sharp strike on both sides of the coin.

On the obverse, the coin is mostly dark with an even, matte toned surface. The lighter ares in the right obverse field, Liberty's face, hair and stars in the left obverse - in short - all lighter areas are lustrous under diffuse lighting. Both obverse and reverse surfaces are smooth and uniform. I did the best I could with the pictures but not great imho. I will try to take a video to showcase the surfaces better.

the original photos led me to believe it was net graded due to an old cleaning. I'm betting the new shots look more like it is in-hand.

when you look at the left side of the obv vs the right side. there is a discernable difference in strike.

on the reverse the entire area around the eagles head including the lower stars also look strike related as well as the bottom of the tail.

i think she's between XF40 and 45 and they net graded down due to some strike issues and eye appeal.
