Before tossing in mason jar the S mint mark caught my eye. A rare matt pproof PF45! For a second thought I had a home run! Last pic of reverse I blocked sunlight so some of proof finish would show. Neat find this ones had heavy honest circulation to show this much wear. I think it would grade straight how about you?

That is really strange. Has no resemblance of a proof coin except for the S mintmark

Cool find. It's not often that you see proof coins that have circulated.

Fun find indeed.

No - it would details grade due to the Wrapping Machine Damage ( Ring of Death) on the obverse.

Wow, I've never seen such a worn modern proof coin. Since the luster is gone, I would put it around PF-40 Details, Machine Damage. Still a neat find!

Yes when I saw the S had to look up 1988 issues thinking this isn't right San Fran didnt mint circulation Quarters. Not until I got it under a 10× loop and rolled it around sunlight did I see some proof surface. Coin had to be a non DCAM to begin with and heck of alot honest circulation. No signs of hanky panky on coin its just been spent hard. Counting Machine marks Darn! Sending to ANACS with 10 barbers heck why not its most worn proof I ever found.

Marve65 Ive looked at coin hard from every angle. Now I'm doubting myself as to if this coin may be a proof coin struck on improper prepared (circulation) planchet or maybe even a mint employee intentional? Weight 5.51 gr. when I study recesses I see intricate die flow and frost normal for proof clad quarters. Somethings fishy it does not look like it was struck 2x? Many odd things would have to add up from the owner plucking it from OGP to mint employee using a P D circ planchet all highly improbreble except it has happend before all kinds goofey stuff especially Ike's. Gonna bite the extra $16 list on ANACS sheet "1988 S Improper Planchet" see what happens.

It's your money and your enjoyment of the hobby - so go for it.

IMO you are going to be rewarded with a details ~PF45 result - which is what we suggested in this thread.

I do hope you get the result you want.

Please check back in when this coin comes back from ANACS.
