seamonkey5150 Pillar of the Community United States 996 Posts	Posted 08/03/2025 7:27 pm I decided to go with Dansco Albums, so I ordered the Buffalo nickel 7112, Mercury dime 7123 and a blank Nickel page for the Liberty V nickels until the Replacement Page 7111-1 becomes available again. Or I may just try and label it myself. My 1st real Dansco albums At first I really liked the look of the blue Whitman albums but I read so much of them not holding up. I even saved pictures of both of them to compare in making my decision. Some of the used pics of the Whitman you could see the pages not laying flat but I didn't see that with the Dansco's. So I took a leap of faith from the majority here and ordered the Dansco's. jbuck Moderator United States 193047 Posts	Posted 08/04/2025 10:57 am Glad you found them! Harco was notorious for PVC damage. They later updated the slides and pages to non-PVC. It appears you got them in the middle of the transition if only the slides are rigid and brittle. I was considering moving my collection from Whitman folders to Harco albums back in 1984 when my grandfather's coin shop friend talked me into Dansco. I am pleased to see you go that route as well! seamonkey5150 Pillar of the Community United States 996 Posts	Posted 08/04/2025 3:46 pm I freed the Buffalo nickels and the Mercury dimes from the Harco albums. You could feel there was something on them. Hard to describe other than a dry sticky feeling. I gave them a 5min acetone soak and it actually left a slight yellow tint to the acetone. I didn't do the V nickels since they were just in the cardboard album unless you think I should. Also a good reminder to always rinse with fresh acetone to make sure no more "yellow" whatever remains on the coins. The majority of my coins/proof sets were stolen years ago that I had collected off and on in the 80's/90's/00's. I just recently got back into coins. I'm off to college and my 9 years younger little brother "liberates" my coin collections. I knew it was him, but he doesn't fess up until we're both in our 30s. I forgave him.
