OK, I'm hoping to get some insight into the mental processes of those who spend up on bulk pennies. Every month I see auction lots go for well above the scrap metal value. Now the kicker is, the lots are submitted by dealers, who, if you go to their tables, have albums full of pennies including key dates and varieties. There ain't no way those bulk pennies haven't been picked over by the dealer and probably many collectors before that so would not be expecting to get any valuable coins out of the auction lots. Soooo.... why do bidders pay good money for picked over bulk lots?

To on-sell them for even higher prices probably. Any genuine collector would steer well away from these lots.

I guess why not? Sure they most likely do not have any valuable coins out here but it's the variety that makes them interesting.

These were quite cheap some time ago. I've heard stories where many were melted down when metal prices were high. Even junk silver coins are worth a bit today.

Only way to get unsearched penny/ half penny's is ask the public or find storage lot hoping you'll get a coin stash or go metal detecting, as for me I bought a great britain penny from a dealer and it was shocking.
