Hi greetings to all. This coin looks in a bad shape, don't know if it is a thrashed or something else happened to it. Have noticed some doubling on this coin at the obv and Rev. Sorry guys I am still unfamiliar at detecting doubled die but doing my best to understand it. The coin also seem to have some damages on the rim not sure if it is collar clash. Hope you guys could help me out with this coin. Will really appreciate it. Thanks for your help.

@sel, yes that surface discoloration is a bit distracting. As to the presence of doubling, I can't really see any with the current photos. Maybe it is a result of the lighting that you are using for these pics?

Overkill on the photos.
Can't see anything that would indicate doubling.
Just circulation wear and stained.

The painted red on your quarter generally indicates that it was a "bar coin".

These were given to bartenders by vendors to play Jukebox tunes in order to entice customers to do the same.

When the coins were collected from the Jukebox, the vendor would return the bar coins to the bartenders so they could do it again.

I am not seeing any doubling. Just a normal, stained and damaged quarter.

Apologies if this is a naive question, but how exactly does the red coloring come in?

They keep the red quarters aside to put in the jukebox when nothing is playing. Customers tend to spend money on tunes when they are playing. Otherwise, no music, they may not even know it is there.
