well, there's this: "Metal nibs have their origins as far back as ancient Egypt and were made of metals like copper and bronze. However, the quality of writing that could be achieved with these pens was inferior to that of reed pens. Metallic nibs were made up through the 18th-century as one-off, craftsman-made luxury items." Does one really think that The US Mint personnel would still be using Quill pens at this time?

Where they're being sold, they do not need 3PG. The person who lotted The Davey Collection is handling them

RedRaider: I chaired two EAC conventions; no one else has done that. If someone could at least attempt to explain the new, unlisted Cuds I'm all ears

What does the label say? Because it looks like PCGS slabbed it (forgive me if I'm wrong).

Congratulations on chairing 2 EAC conventions..I stayed in a Holiday Inn Express last night.
Your explanations make no sense (not just to me, but to anyone else here). Send the coin off for grading.
Here's an offer. If PCGS determines this coin is not damaged I will give you 200% of your grading costs.
Bragging about chairing EAC conferences isn't making you look good when you make outlandish theories about your damaged coins.

johnhenry9009: it was in a PCGS "Damaged" holder; it really can't go back in a holder, because the edge isn't readily visible; as soon as I cracked it out, I could see the smooth edge RedRaider: both Boston conventions. It's in the hands of the Best Person In The World to write it up (and he likes it), so PCGS again won't happen; the coin doesn't need it. The ad hominin attacks don't bother me; we find it amusing

Still waiting for someone to explain how the unlisted Cuds formed (or at least the one above I), they're internal... nobody?

@Oldgrouchyguy I hate to sound dumb but is the "unlisted Cud" you're referring to the spot that seems to be on top of the I in America?

Johnhenry9009: yes, that one is the largest newly-reported RedRaider: It's not bragging if it's true; and I think it gives me credibility lacking in other posters; keep your money-you may need it

I'm happy to say that I bought most of oldgrouchyguy's large cent error collection. Each one was explained to me until I understood it. I've been collecting errors off and on since childhood. Mostly Cuds and clips etc. I'm just now starting to get active again. That 7/6 picture he posted earlier is my coin and one of the newer ones in my collection. I have learned a lot about errors over the last few months and I try to learn something with every oddity I pick up. One thing I've learned is that not all PMD coins are actually PMD. That 7/6 is a perfect example. Having a sharp eye is the way to get some of the lesser obvious ones. I got a clipped planchet the other day that was made with the inferior Coltman copper from Michigan. The clipped edge is fascinating to look at. I'll post a picture of it sometime. Anyway, I love to learn. Oldgrouchyguy has been a fantastic knowledge source for me.

Quote: it was in a PCGS "Damaged" holder; Because it is a damaged coin, not a strike-through. The marks on the rim above IC are clearly the result of damage, just like above A.
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures
