I picked up a big pile of these 10% silver Mexico 1 Peso coins at a show recently. Two of them had red markings on the obverse as shown. This reminded me of painted US quarters which were used by the "house" to feed jukeboxes.
I have no idea whether this is a reasonable explanation for the markings or even if these coins were used in jukeboxes in Mexico. Please let me know your opinion.

Interesting find. It seems possible, or perhaps for some other type of vending?

@hon, have you looked at the purchasing power of a Peso in Mexico in 1962? I'm struggling to find it quickly due to the high rate of inflation and Peso devaluation. My point is that this seems like a big coin to spend on something seemingly so inexpensive as a few songs. Total speculation on my point though...

Spence, this is what I found. Hopefully nothing was lost in translation. If correct, it seems that these coins may have been used in jukeboxes or other vending applications.

Ah ok then two of these would make a quarter in USD, which does seem like the right amount to have been charging for songs back then. I think that your theory seems like a good one: used in a "tocadiscos tragamonedas".
