I'm taking my boys on a road trip out west and made reservations to tour the mint in Denver on June 22.

Does anyone have any tips for me?

Parking, arrival time, etc. Anything would be helpful.

Also, does anyone know of any banks in Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, along or close to, I-64 or I-70 that have the new cents. I won't mind going out of the way a bit.

Thanks in advance.

I don't know about out there, but......If it's anything like around here, If the banks have them today...they wont have any in 2 weeks. I wish you luck in finding the elusive 09's!

All parking for several blocks anywhere near the Mint area is metered
street parking, or paid parking lots. You also have the City/County of
Denver building directly across the Mint on the east side, which
contains the Denver Sheriff's department and the City/County courthouse, so this IS a very busy area.

I would recommend parking one/two/three blocks south of the Mint on Bannock or Cherokee Streets.
That's where I park, and I visit the Denver Mint almost every week!

The first tour should admit at 7AM, and the last should admit at 2PM.
Tours are on the hour, every hour, in that time frame.
No cameras, cellphones, pocket knives; and all of your metal items
will have to go through the scanner as in an airport. You can
take your pocket change with you, I took my 1906-D Barber dime with
me once, and a BU roll of 1958-D Wheat Cents with me on another tour.

I would suggest arriving there a half-hour before your tour is scheduled to start.

The Gift Shop is open from 9AM to 3PM Mon-Fri. The entrance to the
Gift Shop is just south of the Main entrance where you enter for the tour.
Bring CASH if you want to buy current business-strike issue
Dollar coins and Quarters (at face value). Collectible coins (Silver,
Proofs, etc.) and souvenirs can be charged on a card.

Hey DNA.....Thanks for the info.

Our tour starts at 9am. We're staying at the Holiday Inn Select on S. Colorado Blvd. Is that within walking distance?

The "bring cash" tip is very helpful.

Any local coin shops worth visiting?

There are a number of pay parking lots within easy walking distance of the Mint, it shouldn't be too hard to find one. If you are up for a 70 mile detour, I would recommend driving straight down I-25 to the ANA Museum in Colorado Springs. How often do you get the chance to see tens of millions of dollars in rare coins

It's about 5 miles from your hotel. An easy drive, but it might be a bit much to walk!

When using Mapquest or Google Maps, the Mint's address is 320 West Colfax St.

The Broadway location of Rocky Mountain Coin would be easy to go to on your way back to the hotel from the Mint.

I second that motion! A couple of blocks east of the ANA Museum is Hallenbeck Coin Gallery.

I tour the Denver Mint from time to time, since, like DNA, I live in Colorado.

With a good tour guide, you will find the experience interesting. Unfortunately, you don't actually see much.

Don't forget the gift shop, and check out the wares of the vendors just outside the gift shop doors on the sidewalk. During one visit, I actually bought more from vendors than I did in the Mint gift shop.

Have a good time, and please be sure to comment on the experience once you return home.
