Another example of 1957-D 25¢ FS-501 Misplaced-D. Coin appears to show VLDS.

It's a controversial variety, apparently. It seems like it was once listed as FS-901, then changed to FS-501. For the record, I am in the "strangely shaped die crack" camp. It's still fun to find, though.

pretty cool find an RPM? that is just crazy with that far of a separation. did the mint worker drop the MM punch there by mistake?

Yep, it's definitely an unusual variety. Apparently there is an extensive write-up on that page of the CPG, but I don't own that specific volume. I think I saw the page posted on a website at one point, but I can't remember where and my Google search just came up empty.
